Genealogy Services: Your genealogical proof of descent from a Canadian ancestor

Genealogy Research for Canadian by descent ancestry

Your Personal Sherlock Holmes for Tracking Down the Genealogical / Vital Records you need

A pile of scattered papers with handwritten notes, sketches, and some printed documents, along with a metal paperclip on an open, worn-out notebook.

Expert Help Finding the Genealogical and Historical Records You Need

With 25+ years of experience in genealogy and historical documents (including paleography – deciphering old handwriting), I will search for, transcribe, and organise the exact genealogical records you need to prove your direct line of descent from a Canadian ancestor (e.g. baptismal/birth records, marriage, death, census records, and other relevant evidence).

You ever get tired of scrolling through endless microfilm rolls looking for the missing piece? I don’t – Let me take that on for you.

Let’s Get Started

We begin with a focused, no-nonsense assessment of your situation. We’ll go over what genealogical information you’ve got so far, identify what records you are missing, and a clear direction for what to do next.

Benefits:

  • Ensures the reliability of your starting information to make sure the research starts off in the right direction.

  • Saves extra time and expenses later on. (This first step saves on average 20-30 hours of time lost due to inaccurate starting data).

  • Gives you clarity and confidence on where to go next.

  • Includes the first 2 hours research necessary to ensure clarity and accurate results.

Here’s How it Works:

As soon as I receive your request and payment, I will set up a shared folder where you and I can share documents for review and feedback.

  1. First: you send me a summary of your situation, and the genealogical documents and relevant information you’ve got so far. I will review everything you send me in detail and line it up against the requirements for genealogical proof of descent.

  2. Second: we schedule a video call to walk through the details. I will identify what you have, what specifically you might still be missing, and a roadmap of where best to look for it.

  3. Third: From there you can either hire me to continue the research process at an affordable hourly rate, or you can proceed with research on your own with a clear path forward.

Genealogical Research Services include:

  • In-depth research with expert eyes on actual documents (not just directory summaries)

  • Liaising with archivists and research librarians to search physical records and obtain results

  • Documentation of detailed research log (to document where I’ve searched and with what result)

  • Complete summary report of research results

  • Professional document transcription for any documents found

  • Any ordinary translations necessary

Any additional hours required are priced based on your specific needs. I am told my prices are very fair compared to alternatives.

If any sworn/affidavit translations are necessary that will be subsequently charged extra (including notary fees) at-cost, as will any library/archival document fees for obtaining copies. No extra charges will be made without your prior approval and consent.

Please note: you will always receive a definitive result of all research completed. It is not always possible to obtain a positive result, as sometimes documents were never made, or have been destroyed over time.

Genealogical Research results can be positive (document found and obtained), negative (evidence that the document does not exist/no longer exists), or indirect (i.e. the document sought cannot be found, but there is supporting evidence to support the facts that would have been directly demonstrated by the document).

The No-Stone-Unturned Guarantee

Finding historical records is detective work, not a vending machine. Sometimes a document was never created. Sometimes the only copy burned in a courthouse fire in 1892. Sometimes a library takes six months to respond to an access request — and I have no more control over that than you do.

What I can guarantee is this:

You will always receive a complete, documented account of everything searched, everywhere searched, and every result — positive, negative, or indirect. No mystery bills, no disappearing acts. If I hit a wall that makes further searching futile, I'll tell you before you spend another dollar.

You're hiring expert time and expert eyes on real documents. That's what you're paying for — and that's exactly what you'll get.

Important to note…

I do not provide any legal representation, and nothing in my offering constitutes legal advice or representation.

I am a professional genealogist and historical documents researcher. It’s what I do, and I do it well.

What I am not (and why that’s good news for you)…

I am not an immigration consultant nor lawyer. And most people pursuing citizenship by descent right now probably don’t require the legal services of an immigration professional.

Canadian citizenship under Bill C-3 (in force December 2025) is not an immigration matter. It is the formal recognition of citizenship potentially already inherited — i.e. Canadian ancestry that simply needs to be demonstrated through clear genealogical evidence.

Thus the work needed is fundamentally genealogical: locating the right historical records, interpreting them correctly, and compiling a coherent packet of historical documentation that meets professional genealogical standards.

And this is simply not what immigration lawyers and consultants are trained to do. Their expertise lies in immigration and naturalisation matters, with legal disputes, and with filling out legal applications and forms.

But when it comes to paleographic transcription, archival research, historical documents in Latin, French, Ukrainian, Italian, or Gaelic, or tracing an ancestral line through pre-Confederation parish registers, most of them are neither equipped nor trained for that kind of work. You would be paying a premium for expertise that doesn't match the problem.

But when it comes to decades of experience in historical research and genealogical records? That is where I operate.

What I am…

I am a professionally trained researcher and historian, with 25+ years experience specialising in tracing, analysing, and interpreting historical and genealogical documents, and fluent in reading and translating historical French, Latin, and Italian.

I have personally gone through this process — for myself and my family — and have assisted others in recovering, interpreting, and compiling the vital records and genealogical evidence necessary to establish clear, demonstrable proof for their cases.

Obviously, neither I nor anyone else can guarantee a favourable legal outcome in life.

What I can guarantee is rigorous, expert work: historical documents located, correctly interpreted, and clearly presented — so that when the time comes, you can move forward confidently with your Genealogical proof of Canadian ancestry and lineage.
